“The Aftab Archive” is an archive-based, site-based project, started in 2021, after my settlement in my studio’s building in Tehran, Iran. This 50 years old house which is located in my childhood neighborhood, has been home to a family from the early 1970s to late 1990s. My journey started with finding some of the belongings of this family, buried under dust and piled up in the oblivion of decades. By using old photos as visual references, I stepped into the world of archival practice and with the help of my other artist friends, I am trying to retell these personal and public stories through different mediums and interdisciplinary work.
These found objects include photos, letters, clothes and toys and other personal documents and belongings. Immigration, historical memory, and cultural changes are among many aspects of the Aftab Archive.
